The Vulture Mine is just a little south of Wickenburg, AZ.
It's named after Henry Wickenburg who started mining the gold in 1863.
The mine was very a good producer until 1942 when it was closed by Presidential Decree to free up resources for the war.
Today it is owned by a private concern and not active.
Unfortunately the buildings and all the history are being lost.
A little history plaque of the mine
One of the old sheds that has seen better days
There are a lot of old, rusty cars & trucks everywhere
This is the Assey Office
When the mine was closed things were just left where they were
The back of the Assey Office
Some of the buildings that you can see heading up to the mine
This is the headframe and the blacksmith shop at the mine entrance
Mine entrance
This must have been a lot of fun when it's 120 degrees
This is the headframe to the mine. Rather eerie I thought
Yup, 18 men were hung on this tree which is next to Wickenburg's original house
Mr. Wickenburgs house was his fortress against Indian attacks. He used coffee cans for watching outside and if needed, firing holes
Bunk House
The bunk house is really falling apart as you can see
I'm car shopping. Nice convertable don't you think?

What's left of the Mess Hall
This was a huge machine I'll tell you. I think they were pretty proud of it in it's day.
You should see the pistons that this used. Huge
Yup, an Anglia. Just needs a little work
Naturally they had a school for the miners' children. It's in pretty good shape actually
The bathroom at the school. Comfy huh?
A pretty cactus shot by the school.
